Perez confirmed at FI for 2017

I'm glad.  It seems like a good fit.  They are a midfield team who often punches above their weight, and so does he.

Yeah, but I think the money Perez brings may have the key factor regarding this decision. Inconsistency, that has always been Perez's problem, but he never got a chance to prove it otherwise in a stable team though

In this instance the sponsors seemed to have outright picked a team for Sergio and told him where he was driving, so F1FanaticBD is more right than he may have thought :)

It was a sensible move by all concerned.  I'm pretty sure that Pérez wanted to stay, and was only held back from saying so by his sponsors.  The alternatives were not very enticing, in particular the talk of him moving to Renault seemed crazy to me.

I thought Renault is on record as wanting a driver to build the team round, with the resources now being poured in how long until the Enstone team starts to challenge at least the midfield - and maybe more - who knows.... :DntKnw:

I expect FIF1 to be left behind next year with all the big regs changes - just not enough strength in depth - or as we more usually say money. ;)

May be Perez staying in the team will give them some financial stability for the development work they require to keep them where they are
