Can F1 cars really drive on the ceiling?
« on: November 22, 2016, 01:14:17 PM »
Timeless conundrum - theory says yes - much, much harder in practice.

Running inverted engine difficult, amongst other tiresome things like upside down driver and tyres.  Yahoo sports argues merits of case.

Under the current regulations, the show-stopper is the upside-down fuel tank - it's designed to use gravity to get the fuel out of the tank, which doesn't work if the drain is at the top of the tank...

Here's the video of the upside down Indy car in the A2 wind tunnel:

I also liked the picture of Ron Dennis with the McLaren of Damocles hanging over his head. Very appropriate this week.

I'm surprised Bernie hasn't put a loop on the schedule somewhere.   :tease:

It would go perfectly with that Hot Wheels launch ramp at Austin.

If the Austin track was in Indy would you hate it so
much?I think it's one of the better tracks on the calendar

Absolutely! The Hot Wheels ramp is glaringly phony and just plain just silly. The circuit is a conglomeration of bad copies of good corners from other tracks. It wouldn't be too bad as a smaller series track. Think GingerMan or Nelson Ledges.

It certainly isn't a fit venue for F1 or WEC. It's horribly overpriced compared to Indy or Sebring without any of the class or style.

It certainly won't help either series make inroads into the American market. How many people who aren't already road racing fans have ever heard of it? Even NASCAR fan have never heard of it. How many Americans hear the names Indianapolis or Sebring don't immediately think of top class racing?
