Hamilton made Rosberg quit
« on: December 04, 2016, 12:23:50 AM »
A lot is said about Nico lucking into the title due to
Hamilton's bad luck.You don't hear much about Lewis's
first title due to Massa's bad luck when Glock spun.

Who was more unlucky Massa then or Lewis now"

Any champion needs some luck.

Lewis did have a lucky break to win his first championship.

Rosberg needed three lucky breaks to win his.

I'd like to think that in future we'll see the whole story of 2016 told.  There are some truly amazing behind the scene story lines.  Rosberg's stress, Kvyat's torturous season, Max's ascent, Haas showing one of the best ever performances from a brand new team, Ricciardo and his boots.

Nico did crack under pressure several times this season.

I often read how lucky Lewis was to win the 2008 WDC by one point. Surprisingly, I never read much about how unlucky he was to loose the 2007 WDC by one point.

I don't recall the final race when Lewis lost by one point.Who
spun on the last lap or which driver backed the field up to cause
Lewis to lose.

Lewis lost because McLaren left him out too long on rain tires. He blew a tire at pit in and DNF'd in China as I recall. You probably knew that though.

Nico won because he captivated on lewis's mistakes as I'm sure you know

Yeah Rosberg won the title because he got more points, Lewis threw away as many points by his own actions as were lost by mechanicals so as the saying goes - 'Points make Prizes'  ;)

Did the best driver win the title? Maybe not, but that's not what a championship is about - it's about the one with the most points at season end.

However I think it's true that Lewis' edge over Nico has helped with his decision to quit, Rosberg can't see how he is going to win another WDC unless Hammy throws it away. Even then the toll from the stress which has come into play over the last half dozen races seems to be more than Nico is prepared to stand, again.

Absolutely true. Many WDCs have been won that way.

You could probably go back to almost any WDC and say what if.The
best driver doesn't always win but usually the best car did. When's the
last time the best car didn't win?Renault with Alonso or maybe Button's
Brawn?

Just to clear a few things up in this topic.

The 2007 title race was decided by Hamilton's gearbox malfunctioning in the final round and Raikkonen winning, while Alonso could only manage third, meaning Raikkonen won by a single point from Alonso and Hamilton (who finished joint second).

The 2008 title race was decided on the last lap when Glock, on dry tyres, was forced to crawl around the track in the pouring rain and tumbled down the order, being overtaken by Hamilton, I believe coming out of Juncao.
