Jim Clark, Brands Hatch 1964
« on: March 30, 2017, 02:42:29 PM »
The 1964 British Grand Prix at Brands Hatch, during the 1.5 liter era. There are some scenes from the Nurburgring spliced in. Apparently the film makers hoped nobody would notice. Great grid footage of Clark, Gurney, Surtees, Bandini, Phil Hill, Graham Hill, Spence, Ginther and so many others. On-board footage from Clark's Lotus 25.

At about 4:30, note the Coventry Climax valve cover peeking out of a vent hole on Clark's car.

Interesting clip, which I did enjoy.
Questions come to mind however.

Since there are no cameras visible in the shots from outside of the cars, how is it that there is footage of the drivers' hands on the wheel, shifting gears and etc?
Since there are no cameras visible in shots from outside of the cars, how is it that there is footage (close-up) of the cars and drivers from another car?

My guess would be that it was filmed during practice. The in-car was done on one run with a camera on Jim's roll bar. Then that camera was removed and the exteriors were shot from a camera car.

My guess as well; however, we (the audience) are being asked to believe it is actual race footage, as some of it obviously is.

Just like the Nurburgring footage in it.

Still, it's a great film.
