Sticking my neck out, but I cannot believe that the core Honda engine is that bad. Maybe just some of the ancillary attachments need some attention, such as the mechanical and electrical pieces... the engine block is probably just fine.  ::)

I daresay there is some truth in this although having been at the Barcelona pre-season testing I have to say the McLaren sounded like a bag of spanners and noticeably lacking in speed and handling. I think Fernando's patience has been pushed too far now.

I feel sorry for Alonso, he's being let down by Honda, it will be interesting to see how far he can pull the car up. But I agree his last season at Mclaren, I just hope it's not his last.

Do I feel sorry for millionaire race drivers?
No I don't.
Look at the facts.
Alonso went to McLaren who were running the top engine, Mercedes.
They could not win with a top engine so why were they going to start winning with a new untried Honda unit?
Alonso know the risks and they didn't work.
How many drivers in the past would be world champions if they had made different decisions?
Alonso going to Merc will not necessarily change things as with Ferrari getting better is 2018 going to be their year and will Lewis be one of their drivers?

Unfortunately Alonso will go down in history as one of the great (almost) untapped talents in F1.  He managed his one WDC, but since then has made only the most disastrous management decisions time and time again, from having a hissy fit when Mclaren treated Hamilton nicely to changing to and from the wrong teams at the wrong time (easy to say in hindsight, but some of those moves were clearly not well thought out).  Feel a bit sorry for him, but not really.

Indeed, one of the most important skills a race car driver can have is getting themselves into the right car at the right time (and equally avoiding the wrong car at the wrong time).  Natural racing skill can take you far, but it's never been enough to win a race, much less a championship... even Isaac Watt Boulton knew that!
