How I spent yesterday afternoon...
« on: September 14, 2017, 12:53:14 PM »
A friend of mine has a business installing kitchens, and one of his suppliers gave him a 'gift' of a private rental of a D35 Sailing Catamaran along with a boat tour of Geneva Harbour on a 300hp rubber boat and a 4 course dinner out.  Because he knows I'm a sailing nut, he asked me if I would like to join him and a couple other friends for the day. The Catamaran is the same class as the original Alinghi that won the Americas Cup a decade or so ago.  Completely carbon fibre, including a 25m mast with a carbon mainsail and enough sailing electronics to make me very confused.  Nonetheless, we each had a turn on the tiller, grinding or being lumps of ballast (told to jump this way or the other to make the boat trim slightly differently), going through jibes and tacks.  It's not one of the newer foiled sailboats, but the fact that it could get to 18knts in a 14knt wind, and how quickly it went from 0-18 was remarkable.  Wow...chance of a lifetime, so I took it.  The drive there and back in the backseat of a Porsche Cayenne talking to a guy about his La Ferrari and the Testerrosa he wrote off a few years ago was icing on the cake.  Lived the high life for a few hours...

Had my GoPro, but will need some editing, so come back soon...

That looks like an amazing vessel. The Porsche and the power boat must have been a blast, too. Sounds like you had quite a day!   :good:
