  • Calman: Countdown working fine on my end now.  Can you tweak it to run half way into a race, so I have a chance of earning more than 10 points in the GG? lol

  • Calman: Hi Wizzo ... I am trying to understand the system, not change it, so appologise if my attempts to add to the gallery are causing any unessesary stress!

  • Wizzo: To be honest its a very long time since we had any issues with members photos. I have changed the permissions so that images no longer need admin approval

  • Calman: Thanks for the info and approval on my 1st photo Wizzo, really appreciate it.  So, who is the best member to contact for photo approval (as I am aware that you mostly appear online over the weekend).

    April 07, 2018, 09:34:27 PM
  • Wizzo: Yes the gallery does not inform the admin when a new picture is posted so we either have to check everyday or its just easier when you post a picture to let one of us know. Yours has been approved.

Can F1 survive without Ferrari?

  • I have just read another article saying that if engine rules change or their unilateral bonus payment is reduced, Ferrari will leave F1.
My reaction is, 'so what'. Don't get me wrong, I do not want to see any of the major teams (or indeed any team) leave because we need good competition and more cars. But I can't see why Ferrari are worthy of such special treatment. Important teams have come and gone. I lamented the loss of Lotus. I was heartbroken when Hesketh disappeared. I still feel there should be a Brabham out there. If Ferrari wasn't on the grid would it really change anything?

  • If the money was spread around a bit more evenly in F1, perhaps some of the more recent departures would also still be there, or even long term teams like Sauber wouldn't have to struggle to find sponsorship and be able to spend more time developing their cars.

Like you Monty, my first reaction would be 'So what?'.  Through the years I have often been a supporter of Ferrari, but not at all costs.

  • Ferrari is THE marquee name in F1.  That's the name that people who don't watch F1 hear and take a moment to see what Ferrari is up to.

So it's a matter of trading names.  If Ferrari takes their ball home because of new rules which bring in, say Porshe and Jaguar, then they're up to two marquee names for casual fans.

If F1 loses Ferrari without a replacement, that's bad for the sport, but if F1 loses Ferrari and gains 2 recognisable brands, that's good for the sport.

(As an aside, I suddenly see the issue with 'pay tv/streaming' for F1.  If you want to watch F1, you'll have the service, but if you don't want to watch F1, how are you supposed to become interested in it if you can't stumble across it?)

  • Most of the teams that I've supported over the years (for example, Lotus, Hesketh, Minardi, Super Agui and even Jaguar) left the sport. Ferrari would be a loss for F1, but to continue to give them such special treatment would be even worse.

I quite agree if Ferrari want to take their ball and play somewhere else then do so do not keep crying wolf!
No single team is F1 and it would survive without Ferrari they deserve no extra payments the money should be used to support new entrants.

Please could you tell WEC that, who decided today that their series is Fernando Alonso?
