:o :swoon: Danny has jumped ship! Where's he off to - well Renault is the best guess.

I am massively shocked at this.  Only last night he published a big Red Bull video on his social media.

Even more shocking is I now have to half follow Renault due to being a Danny Ric fan!

Blimey - time to replace my Dan Ric Red Bull merchandise items!

I didn't see this coming but I can understand why he's leaving. RBR has made it very clear that Max is their #1. Maybe he's worried about the Honda engines, too.

Will we see musical chairs before the season is up?  If RBR locks up third in the WCC why not promote a new driver to get a little experience with the big team?  Or as a try out?

If Ricciardo IS going to Renault, I expect the next time he has car trouble he will radio about everything except the engine...

In fairness to Danny, Jeri he doesn't seem to whine like Max about anything, he mostly accepts DNFs are part of motor racing. Think it's all part of why any top/aspiring team would welcome him with open arms - if they had a seat.

I’m excited by the possibilities.  I personally would have kept Sainz and put Hulk out to pasture, but I don’t know the contractual situations (though I understand Sainz ‘s ends in 2018).

I’m glad he left RBR.  I think it’s become too toxic, and I think it is, and will continue to be in a slide.

Renault on the other hand, is ready for a big step, and a driver of DR’s caliber will help them take it.

I was so disappointed when I heard DR’s RBR was just a formality.

It's odd as personality wise you would think Ricciardo fits Red Bull much better than Verstappen.  He's more playful and 'interesting' than Max, more in tune with the brand.  But Helmut really is all in on Verstappen so leaving probably was the best move for Ricciardo, just not necessarily to Renault.  I hope it works out though as he is an outstanding driver.  Much more complete than Verstappen.

This will either be a "Hamilton to Mercedes" masterstroke or an "Alonso to Mclaren" disaster......I do so hope it's the former.

Good luck to you Danny! .... time to break free away from Red Bull's claws!!!!!

As the related stories suggested earlier this morning, this is a bit of a 'shock move' ... so when Ted & Anthony did their driver review/moves for 2019, well, they never saw this coming.

Personally, I would welcome Renault moving closer to the front of the grid in 2019, as well as improvements from McLaren and Williams.  Next season could be spicy, if the right drivers end up in the right cockpits!!

Best Regards,
Cal :)

Good for Danny.
He can help Renault grow into a winner.
And he is at last away from that Marko idiot.

Oh yes, already voicing the cautious approach Renault? ...  (sounds a little like McLaren lingo!!!)

I bet Danny has other ideas and will use his overtaking skills in the yellow/black car from here on in!!

Best Regards,
Cal :)
