It's sad to see world class drivers like Danny Ric have to create deals with anything less than a world championship team, but I 'sort of' see his reasons for moving to Renault.   Let's hope that Renault do grow in strength and witness Danny & Hulk push each other hard, before any team orders are put into gear!!

Best Regards,
Cal :)

I think you’re forgetting that RBR have Honda’s next year.  All could very easily go south for RBR and Renault will at the very least make a step up with regards to talent.  DR could have made a good move.

I know Scott .. I worded that a little oddly, based on the obvious engine changes to come.  What I meant, was the basic principle of Danny making negotiations with "current" mid pack teams, other than the top 3, which with his talent and stage in his career, well, I know, the same could be said about Alonso and Hulk to some degree, but I hope you see my angle?

In some ways, I hope RBR turn to crap and Renault steadily work their way to become a top team or in touching distance in the next couple of years!! ... I think it would be an excellent pairing, should Renault impress and Danny and Hulk push each other hard as team mates, in my opinion, that would be great for F1 - especially if they reach a level, where they can snap up points away from the "big boys".

So, by 2021, I would love to see Renault and Williams (with better, more exciting drivers) reach podiums on a fairly regular basis - while Merc and Ferrari continue to challenge each other.

Best Regards,
Cal :)

I was also very surprised by this move because Renault's competitiveness is rather an unknown quantity.  Still, there is little doubt that Red Bull's management favours Verstappen and Ricciardo will undoubtedly have been frustrated about that and Renault has a history of winning championships under various different guises down the years.  He has taken a gamble which may yet pay off for him.

An RBR with a Honda in it might be even more of an unknown.
