Hmmm! going a bit Indycar especially with the no 3.  ::)

And what are those huge sticky out bits behind front wheels and in front of rear wheels on concepts 2 and 3? Surely they're only going to add multi $millions to the aero budgets as big teams try to outdo each other in new areas, thought they were trying to cut costs.

Even though the look of a modern F1 car is regulated to the millimeter, the basic design hasn't changed much in years.  While Fangio might not recognise a modern F1 car, James Hunt certainly would.  Front and rear wings, side pods, mid engine... these were all changes done to gain an advantage.  I miss that aspect of the sport.

Maybe for 5 years instead of cookie cutter cars designed to fit templates, just let the teams do whatever they want.  There will be some great new ideas, as well as some awful ones.  The sport will leap forward, and our idea of a 'racing car' will will too.  Certainly cost is a factor, but it's cheaper to try something unique than simply test 100 slightly different variations on the same thing everyone else is doing.

I agree with you Jeri and disagree at the same time!
Opening the designs up would also open the cheque books and a line has to be drawn somewhere or we'll also end up going backwards as in traction control, ABS, double chassis and blown diffusers along with anything else that the Wizzo wiz kids come up with.
The costs would become astronomical and drive participants away the likes of Williams or Sauber could not survive in that culture but where do we go?
If I knew you'd be able to call me Bernie!  :DD
