Ross Brawn Says Lower Downforce is Coming
« on: September 20, 2018, 03:45:35 PM »
Maybe Ross has been reading GP Wizard.

Ross Brawn says lower downforce F1 car are on the way and that the racing will be better. He cites IndyCar's new reduced downforce cars as an example:

“It’s interesting that in IndyCar they have reduced the levels of downforce substantially, and at least on the road courses the drivers are very positive about the style of racing. They have some issues on the ovals, but that is a pretty unique environment. But on the road circuits it is a pretty positive feedback from the teams and drivers, even though they have substantially less downforce than they used to have.”

Brawn says that the current cars have a 50% loss of aero performance in dirty air. The aim is to reduce that loss to 20%.

I hope they can pull it off. The road course racing in IndyCar has gotten better. I just hope the new cars won't be as fugly as Indy's retro CART throwback spec racers are.
