Grand Prix of Russia
« on: September 26, 2018, 06:38:29 PM »
We've got Sochi this weekend. The 3.5 mile, 5.7 km circuit has been on the calendar since 2014. It is the fourth longest circuit of the year.

The tires available will be the yellow softs, the purple supersofts and the pink hypersofts. This will be Pirelli's 200th F1 pole, second only to Goodyear's 358.

Both of the Red Bulls will have engine penalties. Horner wants to go back to the B Spec Renault engines. The C Spec engines have been fast but failure prone.

Fun facts for the race:
1. Half of the total DNF's in the Russian Grands Prix at Sochi have happened on Lap 1.
2. The highest an F1 car has ever finished at Sochi is P5.
3. It is one of three Grands Prix on the current calendar that are at Olympic venues. The other two are Montreal and Barcelona.

Oops - The highest on more than one pit stop was P5

Looks likely Torro Rosso will also take new spec Honda engines in Russia, to avoid starting from the back in Japan.
Chances are then that Williams might start higher than the back of the grid.  :D  :tease:

What a weird world where the Jr team is taking a new spec engine, and the Sr team is taking the old spec engine.

A very good quali for Haas. Hopefully the Stewards will find somebody else to pick on this weekend.

Sorry I missed you all. With their usual perfect timing, my Spectrum (a.k.a. Time Worthless) cable & internet came back on just in time to see Putin hand Lewis the trophy.  :'(

No fan of Max but that was the best and most mature drive I've ever seen him do, sympathies for Valtteri, even Lewis was embarrassed.
