Kubica Still in Hunt for Williams Seat
« on: October 19, 2018, 03:21:01 PM »
Robert Kubica is still in the hunt for the open seat at Williams for next year. There are reports that Polish oil company PKN Orlen is ready to ante up $10 million in sponsorship if he gets the ride. Other reports say that the company's president Daniel Obajtek is pledging to make PKN Orlen a fuel sponsor in collaboration with Kubica.

I hope he does get the Williams seat. I'd really like to see him back on the grid. I also think that he would be very good for the team.

Kubica is a rare driver who had a horrific accident and came away from it a better driver.  I believe that accident showed him where the 'edge' was for him to be amongst the best F1 drivers.

It's too bad his next horrific accident put his career on hold.

Yeah I hope he is given the drive ahead of Ocon, apart from getting aggresive with his teamate Ocon seems not to have made many great moves on other drivers - in fact he has been out manouvered and undertaken by Max & Nando when fighting for places. A puzzle why most rate him so highly?  :DntKnw:

However I fear Sorotkin's backers will still far out bid Kubica's resources.

I think Sirotkin is probably finished at Williams.  There has been talk of SMP trying to talk to Toro Rosso about placing him there which makes me feel they have been told he is not required for next year.  I hope so anyway, he has hardly pulled up trees even in relation to his team mate.

Regarding Kubica or Ocon, I want Ocon.  Having spent time in the Autosport forum in the Williams threads, it is unbearable already with the Kubica fans and their aggression towards the team.  It would probably be even worse should the FW42 be slow.  I wanted him for this year, but now I would prefer Ocon almost to the point where I would be disappointed if Esteban is not driving for Williams next year.  I admire his story, but I cannot deal with the online baggage he comes with much longer  :nono:

Toro Rosso would be an upgrade from Williams, so that would itself be sufficient reason for a move... ...but if SMP is struggling for sponsorship money (which has happened to it once before), that would also explain the event. And would make Kubica's lower-money offer much more attractive.

The only good thing about the Stroll-to-FIF1-mid-season idea was that Kubica would have had a few races to prove to Williams he was at least capable of doing a full season of F1. I hope he's still in the frame (though I'd also be perfectly fine with Ocon getting the Williams seat).

I think by this point, there has been too much hype surrounding Robert Kubica's return to F1 ... I sincerely hope he does well, but I have a feeling it will be "ordinary" compared to the platform everyone is putting him on.

I do hope I am wrong though ... but it's a long journey for Williams improvements, so figuring out how good he is now, could be a long process!!!

Best Regards,
Cal :)

PKN Orlen have now been confirmed as sponsors for Williams.  Their logos will be on the nose, mirrors, engine inlet cover, rear wing, drivers helmets, team toilet rolls, mugs, pens and tattooed on to Paddy Lowe's forehead.

Hey Luke that might be why Smedley jumped ship...… He hates tattoos.  :D
