Is Liberty having 2nd thoughts over F1 ownership?
« on: January 27, 2019, 10:09:17 PM »
According to the sports/finance specialist website johnwallstreet.com Liberty may be ready to seriously dilute or even sell their entire holding in F1.
Have Chase Carey & Sean Bratches lost the confidence of the big money players? :DntKnw:

... could THIS be the prophecy (route of my concerns) when Liberty took control of F1???

As some of you may remember, it was refreshing to come over to GPW and not be BASHED for the slightest negative response to Liberty Media (Chase Carey and Co) taking over F1.   I've been concerned from day 1, simply due to all the hype, the way Liberty Media approached F1 and all the crap "making it a better and bigger show" ... "take F1 to new heights/bigger audiences" ... bla bla bla .... that's the stuff I simply can't take seriously from the current owners.

F1 may have it's troubled and Bernie's activities certainly didn't help ... but in some ways, Liberty Media taking control felt a little like the final nail in the coffin.

I would welcome a new owner, so long as they respect the sport and have some bloody clue on which direction F1 needs to go from here on in.

Best Regards,
Cal :)

J13 seems to think it was planted by Ecclestone to destabilize Liberty while it is at a critical phase in talks with the FIA and the teams.  JohnWallSt could be a mouthpiece for Bernie.

Until Mr. Eccelstone is long gone, and there is definitive proof he didn't clone himself or setup some sort of computerized duplicate, I will assume that he always has a thumb on the business side of F1.

His greatest joy in life was treating F1 like a plaything.  The series of investors who he tricked into buying F1 so he could get his cut is staggering, and I'd be more surprised if he DIDN'T plan/arrange for Liberty to get tired and move on this quickly.

I know that he's not the most well loved figure in F1, but he's more responsible for F1 becoming what it is today (for good and bad) than anyone else.  There was no guarantee F1 would survive the 1970s much less grow to the point where it can be bought and sold for billions of dollars.

That's about the size of it Jericoke!!

Nobody can view Bernie as a cuddly old man, but you can't take away the fact that he knew F1.  Liberty are simply a business and F1 is a money making project, without any sincere attachment to the sport.   Let's face it, with exception to Brawn (the 3rd musketeer), all that Liberty brought to the sport - is - a curly mustache and scary eye brows .... oh yes!!! ... and THAT 3M product lookalike logo.

Cal :)

You can say that again John!!!!!

Reading articles around the web, there are two BIG ISSUES which are bringing the heat to Liberty Media's front door. I hate to say it, but it was a matter of time.  I couldn't point the finger at one particular concern two years ago, but I knew something would go wrong ... and maybe this is sooner than even I thought!?!?

So, let's see how Liberty Media sugar-coat this and attempt to smooth the ruffles feathers of F1 people and F1 fans.

Best Regards,
Cal :)

Liberty Media are part of Liberty Global which bought Virgin Media for around $23 billion, it's one vast organisation.

It is, and you don't get that big throwing good money after bad.  If F1 is too big a pill to swallow, they'll sell it at a loss just to get rid of it.

I wonder who would be interested in buying F1 at a discount...

Did they really offer Miami a freebie?  :o  No wonder the others are up in arms. That is just flat out stupid.

Yes, I think so Cos!

So, apparently, Bernie is offering to help Liberty through these turbulent times - I WOULDN'T!!!

I think they would smugly refuse and play with him like a toy on the back seat of the car (nice metaphor eh?).

This may be news to some, but NOT to me.

I've had concerns from the very start of their reign and as the article outlines, Chase Carey is good at "gloss talk" ... but it's evident very quickly, that their is no substance or knowledge surrounding F1, the very sport in which he is attempting to "take to new heights" bla bla bla.

Oh Yes ... and Mr Horner has a strong opinion on this now too.  Others will likely "speak up" ... now that there is some momentum building on this story.
