Niki Lauda has passed away

Niki Lauda has passed away.

Certainly anyone on this site knows who Lauda was, and what he meant to F1.  It would be hard for me to add anything to that.

Many former champions are happy to rest on their laurels, and why not?  I would.  Lauda continued to be part of the sport, part of the world as a whole.  He knew he had a lot to offer, and wasn't shy to do so.  The world is a better place for having him, and a little dimmer for for losing him.

Rest in Peace Mr. Lauda, and warm wishes to your friends, family and all the lives you've touched.

Nicely put Jeri!
Like him or not, he was an immense character and a true legend.

Respect Jeri for voicing how much of a loss we all feel for such a legend.  :good:

R.I.P. Niki, we may never see your like again.  :(

Wow, I hadn’t read anything about how ill he was.  Terrible loss for his family, friends and F1.

I won’t pretend I liked him in the last two decades, but I have massive respect for his F1 driving career and know that his bravery and courage after his accident was inspirational.

RIP Niki

Well said, Jeri.

Herr Lauda was an all time great, both on and off the track. I've always thought his rivalry with Hunt was symbolic of the changes in F1 at that time. Hunt came from the dare devil, fighter pilot mold of F1 (and other) race drivers up to that point. Lauda was more akin to the more businesslike Schumacher, Hamilton, Vettel types that came later.

R.I.P., Niki. Your courage in returning only a few races after a shunt that would have finished most drivers is still the stuff of legend.

My thoughts too. The man had courage
Mark Twain once opined, "it's easier to con someone than to convince them they've been conned."
