BMW Theme Park??

  • BMW are set to launch a new initiative to bring the fans closer to Formula One at the first GP in May, the European GP in Germany.

The pit lane has long been seen as the real core of F1 one and totally inaccessible to the public. This 'theme park' like idea though allows fans a chance to get up close and personal with the inner workings of F1.  8)

A 5000m square park will be constructed, with a real 90metre track on which real BMW F1 cars will be driven. While their cars on are parade the BMW drivers, Nick Heidfeld, Jacques Villeneuve and Robert Kubica will be around to interact with the fans.

"This theme park allows us to bring the fans right up close to the sport," said BMW motorsport director, Mario Theissen.

"That's why we've paid a great deal of attention to authenticity and interaction. You could call it a high-tech adventure park. The fans have told us that they want to get closer to the action, find out more information and experience the sport for themselves."

"What they're after is an experience to tell their friends and family about, to take home a souvenir or a photo which they can show everybody. And we've come up with some totally new ideas to give the fans what they want. We are very much looking forward to the premiere of the BMW Sauber F1 Team Pit Lane Park."

"The Pit Lane Park will bring Formula One up close and personal," added BMW central marketing Director and brand management, Torsten Müller-Otvos.

"For BMW it is important to offer as many people as possible a live experience with the BMW brand. Here, the fans can sample all those aspects of F1 that they normally only see and hear from a distance - in real time and at touching distance. This is a truly unique project aimed at giving back something to all those people whose interest underpins our sport. I'm delighted that we can unveil it for the first time at the Nürburgring, just a stone's throw away from BMW Erlebniswelt."

The event is open to all ticket holders for the particular day at the GP or anyone who can present their BMW ownership document and car keys.

BMW will be hosting these events at five other GP's this year, Barcelona, Silverstone  :yahoo:, Montreal, Monza and Shanghai.
