Melbourne Safe Through 2025

Good news! F1 has extended Melbourne's contract through 2025. 

“We are pleased to have renewed our partnership with the city of Melbourne, which will now host the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix until at least 2025,” F1 CEO and chairman Chase Carey said. “The decision to extend the current relationship for a further two years stems from the fact this event has proved to be a resounding success for the capital of Victoria, for Australia and indeed around the world, proving immensely popular with fans and those who work in Formula 1."

Something just feels right about opening the season in Australia.  I'm glad it will stick around

They used to close the season in Australia a while ago as far as I remember. That also felt right

When I was 'just' a race fan, only concerned with what I saw on TV, yeah, Brazil was a great way to end out the season.  But knowing that the teams go through security hell, and the unbridled poverty in the ara, it just feels like it's hard to celebrate for the drivers and teams.

I think in large part because it's always a good competitive race even if titles finished long before they get there.

The track itself offers good overtaking opportunities and usually throws up scrapping amongst the midfield if not the front.

Abu Dhabi just seems like a demonstration race at a holiday centre. Especially if titles already sorted
