Why the change from 'Flying' to 'Push' lap in F1?

  • All of a sudden the F1 commentators seem to have switched language, they are now describing the attack lap after warm up as the 'Push' lap, why the change?  Beats me what's wrong with the well used 'Flying' lap.

I know they have been using the term push lap for the last few years in F2 & F3 commentary but that makes sense as there are no tyre warmers so drivers take at least 2, sometimes as many as 4 out/warm up laps so it makes sense to indicate the change. It's very rare in F1 to do more than one warm up lap so why the need to change the language?  :DntKnw:

  • Announcers feel like they need to make the commentary 'their own'.  Using lines that other's made famous makes you replaceable.

I agree that changing the word for something we already 'know' doesn't seem necessary, but if it's your job on the line, it's very necessary.

  • Looks like things have settled down, it seems to have occurred on just 2 occasions over Abu Dhabi race weekend during practice when Nico Rosberg was in the comms box, he led the other more experienced commentators to follow him.
During Quali and the race things got back to normal.  :yahoo:

Teams and drivers often use different language to us public, there's the stupid constant reference to wheel locking under braking as under rotation by one D. Coulthard on Ch4 - and he continues to use it year in year out - thankfully no one else follows him.

David  :stop: - 'locking the brakes', 'locking the wheels'(adding front/rear/left/right optional), or plain and simple 'locking up' is what 99% of us fans know it as.   >:(

With you on the constant "under rotation" use by Mr Coulthard.....very annoying.
