Aston Martin Dumps FIA-WEC Hypercar Entry
« on: February 19, 2020, 03:44:03 PM »
Aston Martin is preparing to drop its FIA-WEC Hypercar entry. That will leave the class with Toyota as the only entry for its inaugural season. The class was supposed to replace LMP1.

The announcement of regulatory convergence between IMSA and the ACO has made the forthcoming LMDh/DPi 2.0 a much more attractive format.

Aston's announcement follows the buy-in by Lawrence Stroll and the conversion of Racing Point into Aston Martin F1.

Possibly this is more to do with Red Bull withdrawing support, after all this Valkyrie project was about helping Adrian tick off items on his bucket list to keep him at the F1 team.

Under the old Aston management there was presumably blank cheque Red Bull sponsorship of a team on the table for the assault on a Le Mans title. I'm also presuming this is now not forthcoming since Stroll came on the scene.

Found this interesting article that explains Aston Martin's promise to race Valkyrie in Hyper car Le Mans class caused a schism rather than harmony between ACO & FIA over global integration of regs around DPi (Daytona Prototype international) platform.
Now appears AM pulling out makes a right dogs dinner of both WEC and IMSA series classes once again.  :(
