Proposed 2021 F1 Schedule
« on: October 20, 2020, 01:51:39 PM »
Speculation is already rampant about next year's F1 schedule. I came across this on Goodwood's website:

Confirmed Races

1.   Australian GP  Albert Park
2.   Bahrain GP      Sakir
3.   Vietnam GP     Hanoi
4.   Dutch GP        Zanvoort
5.   Monaco GP      Monte Carlo
6.   Azerbaijan GP  Baku
7.   Canadian GP    Montreal
8.   French GP        Paul Ricard
9.   British GP         Silverstone
10. Hungarian GP    Budapest
11. Belgian GP        Spa
12. Italian GP         Monza
13. Singapore GP    Marina Bay
14. Russian GP       Sochi
15. Japanese GP     Suzuka
16. US GP              COTA
17. Mexican GP       Hermanos Rodríguez
18. Abu Dhabi GP    Yas Marina

Races Not Yet Confirmed

1.   Chinese GP       Shanghai
2.   Spanish GP       Barcelona
3.   Austrian GP       Red Bull Ring
4.   Brazilian GP       Interlagos

It looks pretty much like the pre-pandemic 2020 schedule. One big change - the website of the Automobile Club de Monaco will be a week earlier than normal, on May 23rd. That means it won't conflict with the Indy 500. It will still be a 4 day event, with FP1 and FP2 on Thursday.

I know it doesn't make sense for a million reasons, but I'd love to see the entire F1 grid show up for the 500.

Certainly Alonso has unfinished business there, and I'd be surprised if Kimi and Hamilton don't take a crack at it someday (Hamilton especially if Alonso eventually wins).  Even Max seems like he'd enjoy oval racing.

Can't understand why Dutch GP is set for early May when weather at Zandvoort seldom gets to 16c daytime, why not swap Baku & Dutch over?   :DntKnw:

Alonso might even win if gets to drive his F1 car!  :D

Seriously, I would quite like to see a race between F1 cars and Indy cars. I would imagine F1 cars would run circles around the Indy cars (quite literally at the 500!). But maybe not... I don't know.

Certainly an F1 car stripped down to run an oval would be a different beast. When F1 ran at Indy, their speeds along the straight was no where near the speed of Indycars, because the F1 cars needed downforce for the infield sections.

However, when CART ran at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, their pole time was about 2 seconds behind the last place F1 qualifying time.

What I would like to see (never expect to happen) is for F1 and Indycar to harmonize their rules, so that Indycar teams could buy a Williams chassis and run it.  Engine costs could be borne by more teams.

I imagine Brazil being a pending race has a lot to do with the bickering about building a new track vs Interlagos.
I would very much like to see some of the non-regular tracks seen in 2020 make it onto the 2021 calendar.

It may have more to do with safety. It's a dangerous city. Something

Not sure how official this is, the organizers at Zandvoort have already said they have not confirmed the date on this schedule.

Shoulder season in Holland vs high season. If it went to high season, the Dutch race would probably lose its funding from the tourist board, therefore not happening at all.

Correct. Chase Carey was caught trying to persuade the regional government to break the law in order to allow Rio de Janeiro to have a track constructed in protected rainforest.

A local I know pointed out that Rio is just as dangerous as São Paulo, particularly the parts F1 would need to use to get to the proposed circuit.

Rio can pay more money because Jair Bolsanero is trying to defund the part of São Paulo in which Interlagos resides. Interlagos' case is not helped by the fact that Bernie Ecclestone got a deal involving the track paying no fees whatsoever for 2016-2020. Liberty hated that...
