Will we ever see another driver that can equal Michael or Lewis ?

Depends how long you're planning to live Ian,  ;) I'm not sure I'll see anyone near their records in mine.

Maybe the new 2022 regs can shake the order up a bit, not convinced they'll make much difference though.

Would like to see another driver, and even team, win titles in the not too distant future - too much of a good thing can leave us less than satisfied.

I think, in Lewis, we already are... Edit: it's nearly midnight and I had a reading-the-comment fail...

Yes. Probably in the next 10 years. I think I even know who, but I'm willing to be corrected as there are at least 2 candidates currently on the grid.

I certainly didn't expect to see 7 championships matched so soon after Schumacher did it.  There is a poetic element to Hamilton being a rookie the season after Schumacher 'retired', and then Hamilton literally replacing Schumacher after he retired for good.

The FIA is trying to change the rules so 'dream teams' like Todt led Ferrari and Wolff led Mercedes can't coalesce again, but I'm sure someone will find a way to game those rules.

I could certainly see rules that forbid a driver/team combination exceeding X number of years, if nothing else to keep the pipeline of young talent (and their backers) flowing.  A team might still dominate, but not with the same driver (or driver dominate with different teams).

I was at Spa in 2004 when Schumi sealed his 7th title and I watched the trophy presentation, Schumi was third, and said to my son "we have to watch this as we'll never the likes of it again".
How wrong was I!

I mentioned that we thought we'd never see Schumi's records bested today in the Chat Room. It was either DD or Scott said that there is always somebody new in karting right now.

But will that be in my lifetime?
I'm getting on a bit now!  :D :lazy:

Aren't we all. We still may outlive F1

I know what you mean. At my age, I don't even buy green bananas.   ;)
