Alonso the fastest 'young driver'
« on: December 15, 2020, 04:10:17 PM »
I see Alonso was the fastest of all the young drivers - better than the Red Bulls and Mercedes and even quicker than Ocon's qualifying lap. I suppose you could argue that the laps he did in the R25 over the weekend gave him some track experience but it probably means that he is just fast!

Young driver my a*£$!
Why have rules if they are not adhered to?
Once you have retired every day is a Saturday!

You've got to admire the gall (Gaul?) of whoever it was at Renault to suggest actually asking the FIA if Alonso could run.  Surely no one really expected anything but being laughed off the phone.

I agree that the entire point of the test was to get some experience for young drivers, to earn some points towards their super license.  (Now, maybe it's possible that Alonso, Buemi and Kubica's super licenses are at risk?  In which case, why not say that?)  It fills the gap created when in season testing was eliminated.  Now that gap of getting young drivers a chance has been re-opened.

No surprise Ferd was fastest. He brings a wider range of experience to the car as he has raced in other categories that he can draw upon. Not saying the rest were slacking in experience but Ferd is a World Champion.
Looking forward to seeing on the grid in 2021.

Never mind pensioner Nando's time it's Tsunodo's time in the Alpha Tauri that takes my eye more.

Thought I read somewhere that the FIA wanted Ferd to polish up his superlicense for them? Maybe they wanted him to run as much as Renault did.

I couldn't take the proceedings seriously given the way the rules were being interpreted. Fernando would have needed 300 km but he could have got that in the regular test.
