I certainly don't mind them changing the rules to solve a problem... but I'm curious what problem this rule solves?
It'll save each team a couple sets of a tires and maybe 100 kg of fuel over a weekend, I guess that adds up over a season. However, I feel like teams will just run compressed programmes, using the same number of tires, fuel, and wear/tear on the limited power unit components. So no material savings, I'm guessing employees are paid to be there for the weekend, not per hour on the job (in which case, it must kind of suck to be dragged away from home for 5 days and lose an hour of work?), so no savings on personnel.
Are the international broadcasters upset about the extra time? It's usually not shown on TV in Canada at all, just on streaming, so they can show more repeats of sports misplays.
