Horner outlines human cost of F1 budget cap
« on: March 27, 2021, 10:11:09 AM »
I feel the redundancies he refers to are an under reported side effect of the budget cap and I'm sure other teams have faced the same. We often overlook that the budget cap is felt much more heavily by the employees who have to leave the payrolls, through no fault of their own.  :(

It's made even more devastating for some of these ex employees since Covid has wrecked the finances of other motorsport operations who may have welcomed at least some of them.

A small side effect referred to at the end of the article flags up the repair bills that a sprint race format is likely to throw up that have not been budgeted for in 21, and probably 22, team finances.
How many more will need to be laid off if a compromise is not found?  :DntKnw:

I do feel badly for the people who have been let go from F1 teams.  However, most of the 'large' teams are part of corporations that have been shifting their employees into other divisions.

I don't know about the current Honda foray into F1, but I know the previous version used the F1 team as a reward for internal Honda employees.  (Not necessarily the best way to run an F1 team, but sounds like a great recruiting tool for an automotive company)
