Turkey set to replace Canada round on F1 schedule this year
« on: April 26, 2021, 05:22:59 PM »
Planetf1.com is forecasting Turkey will return to the calendar again this year as vaccinations in Canada will not be advanced enough to allow F1 GP to take place there.

"Another major announcement is also expected to be ratified with Canada once again dropping off the calendar due to complications over the quarantine process ahead of the race in Montreal. Turkey is expected to make another welcome return to the schedule its place."

Excert from Planetf1.com, Today, 26th April.

I've always liked the track there. Maybe the best of the Tilkedromes.

Quebec Health has said they will allow the race as long as there are no fans in the stands. The final say will be made by the Federal Govt Health Dept.
There is a 14 day quarantine period for anyone entering Canada that will not be possible with a race in Baku only 8 days before the scheduled race in Montreal on June 13.
I do not see it getting approved, and without fan tickets, the venue will just go deeper into the red where it usually resides.

I work in F1 and can guarantee Canada will not happen - teams have turned freight around and not sent it as its not happening

Howdy, F1Leakz. Welcome aboard.

I'd really prefer Montreal but I'm not surprised about Turkey taking it's place on the calendar. The 14 day quarantine pretty well makes Canada impossible this season.

As a Canadian, I'm disappointed the Canadian Race won't happen.

But, as a Canadian, I'm glad that the levels of government are putting on a show of being serious about health concerns affecting us.

Welcome to our community, F1Leakz, and hope you enjoy it here!

Turkey is in the middle of a huge COVID-19 surge right now. While last week's stats are tentatively promising, I'm reluctant to say it'll be safe enough for F1 to go and visit (though I'm sure efforts towards that will be made).

Seems Quebec haven't given up on salvaging the Canadian GP this year.
Is it all too late though?
Maybe it's as much about money than the dreaded Covid that will scupper Montreal's race.

Aaand like clockwork, Turkey announces a 3-week lockdown, including the mandatory closure of any business not deemed "essential".

This had better work.

Maybe they can dust off the old Avus circuit in Berlin & hold the race there. The ideal track for current F1 management. A street circuit with lots of pretty buildings in the background, basically only 2 corners and almost the entire track covered by two big DRS zones.   ;)

All very good Lonny but following a VW Passat or an Audi A3 round the road section kinda lets it down a tad.  ;)

Good bits about old control tower & other buildings though.  :good:
