Craziest Pass EVER in NASCAR

(1/1)

Jericoke:
Ross Chastain needed a top 4 finish to keep in the championship hunt.  Going into the last corner of the race he had the speed to pass, but wouldn't have been able to keep control.  That's when he realized there was a curved wall that would keep his car pointed in the right direction while he made his pass.  He drove along the safety wall, destroying his car, to make the required passes and keep his season alive.

Used to be at Darlington, all the cars rode the guardrail out of turn 4. It was an ordinary steel guardrail and you had to lean on it to be competitive. They built the cars to do it and at the end of the race they all had tha "Darlington Stripe" down the right side.

That was what NASCAR racing was like back when it was worth watching! I doubt he even hurt the car all that much. Remember, those are body-on-frame cars. All the body panels do is keep the outside out & the inside in.

We'd just grab the tin snips, pop riveter, some sheet metal & Bear Bond out of the truck & be ready for the next race of the night. We did the patch below between a heat race and the feature at Atomic Speedway one night way back when. I don't know about the plastic slot car bodies NASCAR uses now

I tried to watch the recent Talladega race and it was pathetic. No pit strategy scrambled restarts, points awarded every few laps. Bleah!.
