High speed open wheel race series without drivers is on the way

(1/2) > >>

John S:
Seems like a new folly like A1 GP is on the cards with autonomous race series planned for 2024.  :swoon:

Had to check the date in case it was just an April Fool joke.   :D

Andy B:
Is there a point to it?
It would seem not!

lkjohnson1950:
They tried self driving cars at Indy (I think there's a post about it somewhere) and few of the cars could even complete a lap, much less do it with any kind of speed. And that's a relatively simple layout. SMH.

Jericoke:
There are thousands of racing series and projects around the world, many of them only of interest to a small group of spectators, or even of interest only the participants themselves.

If you don't want to watch cars controlled by computers... don't.  You're probably already not watching robot camel racing or even maggot racing, which are also real things.

Auto racing started out as a technology race to build better cars, what makes a driverless car the line you couldn't possibly cross?

cosworth151:
Because without the drivers, racing is pointless. Without real, human participants, any sport is pointless.
