No P1 then!
« on: November 17, 2023, 05:56:21 AM »
P1 lasted just 10 minutes before a manhole cover wrecked CS's chassis on his Ferrari with session red flagged and was not re-started.
Will P2 take place?
Who knows at this stage.

Embarrassing for F1 for sure, but we've seen drainage covers come off at dedicated tracks as well.  Bad look for Vegas, but it can happen to anyone.

Who pays for repairs in regards to the cost cap?

I guess a typical American work crew doing their job
is the blame. Ten people one working and nine supervising

I think it's the very definition of karma.  ;)

Apparently Sainz's power unit was damaged, and he's being penalized to replace it?

I wonder if there are TV ads for lawyers showing in Vegas right now:

"If your car was damaged by a poorly welded manhole cover, I'll fight for your rights. I've handled hundreds of F1-sewer related case and always get my clients top dollar. Remember, I don't get paid unless you get paid!"

Seriously, it shows how low F1 has sunk that they lay the blame for their poor work on a driver. I do hope that since this is "The Land of the Lawyers" that both Ferrari & Carlos have already filed for an injunction to stop the race unless they remove the penalty & pay for the damages.

A crazy stand by F1 stewards who say there is no provision to remove the penalty for CS yet in 2021 it was okay for do what they wanted when it suited!
Not only should CS not be penalised but Ferrari and Alpine should have their repair costs refunded.

Apparently the stewards were unaware of the International Sporting Code:

Quote
11.9.1 The stewards shall have supreme authority for the
enforcement of the Code,

11.9.3.g may decide to suspend any penalty in accordance
with Article 12.2.3;

The kicker is that Article 11.9 is the article that gives the stewards the power to investigate incidents and issue any penalties in the first place, in addition to delineating all the stewards' other duties. So if the stewards don't know that rule, they literally do not know their jobs.

Totally wrong that Carlos and Ferrari have been penalised for a track fault that was not of their making. I hope that Ferrari and Carlos sue and receive full reparation for the damage it caused and the people that inflicted Carlos' grid penalty wrongly get put right.
