Korea Applies for New F1 Race

(1/1)

cosworth151:
Korea has delivered a letter of intent to apply for a date on the F1 schedule. This time it would be at Inchon. Yet another cobbled together street parade race.

You know, at Monaco you can see the city in the background, it's got tradition and old world charm. But at Miami all you see is stage props and a stadium. In Vegas you couldn't see anything but the big ball. What's the point of babbling about "they're racing right down the famous Strip" if you can't identify anything that says The Strip? Especially when most fan surveys show that Spa, Silverstone, and Monza, three genuine race circuits, are the most popular.  >:(

Andy B:
Well put Ikj.

Jericoke:
I am glad to see Korea rejoin F1.  They've got a genuine car culture and a strong international automotive industry, which should be the building blocks of F1.

And right or wrong, they certainly understand that if you want in, you need to provide a party first and a race second.  I'd rather see a dedicated race track, just like everyone else here, but can't hate on the Koreans for playing the game.

Hopefully it is a situation like Saudi Arabia: the street circuit exists as a bridge to a race at a real track.  (Hopefully that still happens.  Though I'd still prefer not racing in Saudi Arabia at all, no matter how good Qiddiya turns out to be.)

lkjohnson1950:
I have nothing against South Koreans. I'm dragging on Liberty, who do put the party before the race. It's bringing in new fans, but in a couple years they will move on to something else and the rest of us will be stuck with a bunch of bad races at subpar, temporary circuits.
