There was a small error right off. It's true the Cooper was the first midengined car to win an official WMC race it was not the first successful midengined car in any series. The Auto Union C-type and D-type won a number of races in the '30s. They may not have won the European Championship up against Mercedes, but they were certainly competitive. And I believe the 6 wheel version of the C-type did win the European Hillclimb Championship.
