Heroes
Oscar Piastri. First GP win. He's not the first driver to get their first win with 'extenuating circumstances'. He earned the win fair and square, drove a great race, and it was fun to see his 'cool as a cucumber' approach to winning. Looking forward to seeing Piastri in the limelight in the future
Hamilton. Mercedes seems to have finally woken their champion driver from whatever post 2021 torpor he's been in. Even got to see some classic Max vs Lewis racing. I didn't start watching F1 until 1996, I'm sure there are other racers who have been as contentious on track as these two, but they're the ones that stick in my mind with years of on track animosity.
Leclerc. Sure, he should be doing better, but definitely needed some sort of result, and got it.
Stroll in the top 10. Stroll seems to be having the most vanilla season of all time. The team isn't as good as they should be, but Stroll is hanging in with Alonso. Maybe Alonso has lost a step, which makes Stroll look better. I don't know. But Stroll keeps just showing up and doing okay.
Zeroes
Max/Lando. I understand why the radio broadcasts are public, but I don't want to hear these two 'super stars' whining. What other sport do we listen to the best of the best just complain about the event we, as fans, are supposed to be enjoying? If you don't like it, leave. You're not as irreplaceable as you might think.
Alpine. I thought they were getting their act together and becoming competitive. I think they're a good example of how good the sport really is. There used to be 'big teams' and 'minnows'. Now they're all big teams. Even if Alpine is misrun and making mistakes, I feel a team at their level could easily win championships in the 2000s (and they did!). They're an example of you've got to keep getting better just to stay in the same place, which is a great state for the sport to be in, even if it stinks for Alpine.
