FIA slamming door shut on F1 asymmetric braking shenanigans
« on: August 02, 2024, 05:31:45 PM »
OMG FIA issues F1 Tech Regs update mid season, not a Tech directive but an amendment to the Tech Regs. This has not been seen for many years.

Claim is that RBR have been using an asymmetric braking system and were asked to take it off car at Hungarian GP - we all know what has happened to Red Bull pace since then.

I'll let F1unravelled explain:-

I didn't watch the whole video.

Is this over safety concerns?  Cost concerns?  (With a cap, nothing should be done for cost concerns) Or does someone feel this is violating the spirit of some rule without explicitly breaking it?  (The technical nerds like me love that loophole exploitation!)

I would be interested in knowing how the system worked. Does the driver adjust it manually? Is there a sensor that senses grip level and applies the brakes accordingly? Pretty fascinating. Maybe it isn't entirely Newey that gave R/B the "unfair advantage."

Probably it would be a computer controlled program acting in a similar way to traction control or a limited control diff. If you can transfer braking more to the loaded up wheel, however fractionally it must help gain time by making braking more efficient.

Can't see how this can be a manualy
adjusted system, like the front to rear brake bias, must need instant activation under braking, surely?

Even the most skilled Batak player will still never come close.   :D
