Author Topic: Andretti push on with F1 plans despite no place on 26 grid - yet!  (Read 868 times)

Offline John S

Has Greg Maffei been the real road block to Andretti entry?

Will Michael Andretti & Maffei stepping away unblock the process?

Can Andretti be up to speed with the rest of grid if they get a place for 26 season?

All these and other questions remain in the air at present.

I suspect the engine question is easier to answer as the rules cover it; if no one volunteers to supply then one with least teams, i.e. Honda or Audi, will have to offer PUs. Now that's a can of worms in itself.  :DD

I love the Andretti approach:  create such a great F1 team that it would be an embarrassment for the sport to ignore them.  After all, F1 has a history of letting flim flams into the sport who have no business being there.

With rumors of Audi getting cold feet, perhaps Andretti will buy or buy in there?

Liberty being American its in their interest to have another US based team in F1.

With Andretti setting up their own facilities, they could certainly replace Sauber, but we'd lose the Swiss factory and personnel (of course some of them would relocate).

Certainly before building their own facilities Andretti could have taken over Sauber.  I fear it's too late now.

I'd rather have 11 teams anyway.

It should be wide open. If you have the fees, can pass safety and tech inspections, and are within the 110% or 105% rule you should be able to run. Liberty and the teams should have no input.

I wish they'd  allow the privateers to enter one car only like Rob Walker
and Lord Hesketh as a example
Mark Twain once opined, "it's easier to con someone than to convince them they've been conned."

I'd love to see it too. That said, would any manufacturers or sponsors pony up the huge amount of money needed to field an F1 team without a guaranteed grid spot for every race?

NASCAR now has what it calls a "franchise" system where the top teams get a free pass into every race. Maybe something like that would work for F1.
