GM yes, Andretti no?
« on: November 25, 2024, 07:06:33 PM »
GM has reached a tentative agreement to be the 11TH F1 team in 2026, however there is no mention of Andretti in the announcement.

From what I read on the BBC web site this morning Micheal Andretti has dropped out as they say "he rubbed people up the wrong way" during negotiations.
I want a twelfth team now!
Whose your choice?
Bugatti, Lamborghini, Bentley, Great Wall?  :DD

How about a return to F1 by Jaguar.....if the company doesn't go broke

Think that's not quite the truth Andy, other sites are now saying Greg Maffei has a huge personal dislike of Andretti Global head Michael Andretti & as CEO of Liberty ensured they would not have a grid slot.

Rather odd ain't it that both Michael Andretti & Greg Maffei are leaving their jobs in the respective companies & a settlement is struck between Liberty & the Andretti Global organisation, or rather a team referred to as TWG Global. It appears Michael was bankrolled by Dan Towriss who funded Andretti Global's rapid rise & new F1 team infrastructure.

Of course it's got nowt to do with possible political & court action following referrals by Senators about the alleged cartel amongst FOM & F1 teams to keep their cake to themselves.  :D

I reckon John Malone the real power behind Liberty Media has simply told Maffei that there is no contract renewal and effectively taken him out of the game from year end, in the same way that Towriss got Michael to step aside.
I'm pretty sure Malone would not welcome senate or court proceedings against FOM/Liberty for restraint of trade or unfair competition. A work around has been found by both parties.

Whatever issues Michael Andretti personally caused, I still feel the Andretti name is a top three name among Americans when it it comes to motorsport, and top amongst open wheel.

If you want American racing fans, even casual ones, I feel like the Andretti name provides a lot of recognition for free. I hope they use it.

I am glad to have an 11th team. I'd love to see a non automotive company join the sport, like Red Bull.  A tech company would be a good fit. Even another innovative drinks company, like Liquid Death.

It'll be interesting to see if Michael somehow end up back with the team once the dust settles.

Back in 2005 I had a Jaguar X Type in Jaguar racing green which was stunning especially when the sun struck it.
