Before Indy was on tv I remember listening to Clark winning the 500

He was my fav right ahead of Jackie Stewart

I remember those days too, Dare. Even regular F1, USAC & NASCAR races were only shown in edited form a week or 2 later on Wide World of Sports.

I have to put Fangio ahead of Clark by the tiniest of margins.

I started following F1 regularly I think in Car and Driver mag. Rob Walker
reported the races.

The Great Rob Walker would be in Road and Track, also my go to for F1 back in the day. Made some decent Scotch Whiskey. He also owned a beautiful 30s Talbot-Lago teardrop coupe and an F1 team for many years.

Rob Walker, Henry Manney III & Phil Hill made Road & Track my favorite back then, too. Sports Car Graphic was a close second.
