https://www.planetf1.com/news/aston-martin-set-to-sell-stake-formula-1-teamFinances are complicated, but from what I can tell, Lawrence Stroll's company that owns Aston Martin, the car company, is selling their stake in Aston Martin, the F1 team. The car company will continue to be the naming rights sponsor of the team, so the team will continue to be 'Aston Martin', but will not have any control over the team.
From what I've read, this is an effort to bolster the flagging car company. Stroll is putting some of his own money into it.
I think it means that Lawrence won't have control of the team any more, which means that Lance Stroll will be on the team on merit alone. Unless the sponsorship deal still gives Aston Martin say over personnel. (And of course there is say in the legal sense and say in the 'would be a shame if we missed a payment' sense)
