NASCAR heavily fines driver for a truly profane insult.

Not sure if size of fine is related to swear word used, it sure sends a clear message about atrocious insult though.
Seems FIA are not alone in trying to drive up standards around motor racing.

Sorry GPWizard wont allow direct web address of article as profanity gets bleeped so look on general page and click through to appropriate article.

I like that they announced where the fine is going to.

I seem to recall that was one of the big problems the GPDA had with FIA fines: they just went into a black hole and could easily just line the pockets of those levying the fines.

I seem to recall that was one of the big problems the GPDA had with FIA fines: they just went into a black hole and could easily just line the pockets of those levying the fines.

Jeri the objection from The GPDA was rather stupid since the FIA is a not for profit organisation that funds a host of motoring safety work & educational projects around the globe along with regulating & encouraging all forms of motorsport from little starter mud tracks to the pinnacle F1.

Now this GPDA rant has fuelled yet another spin oft used against current FIA President in the ramped up war from some FIA affiliated motoring bodies and others.
Financial competence is not one of the things anyone can level at Ben Sulayem, he's put FIA back firmly into the black after his predecessor Todt virtually bankrupted the organisation.
Todt's reputation is not tarnished in anyway from the big overspend he oversaw along with the financial hole he left at FIA, in fact too many people in F1 circles hark back to his tenure as all sunshine & roses.

Why does no one ask what Liberty does with it's vast profits to benefit other motorsport grassroots or motoring safety campaigns?
Liberty's profit, not turnover, from F1 is probably 3 to 5 times greater than FIA total worldwide motorsport budget!!!
Apart from their F1 academy which IMHO virtually just pays lip service to male/female equality in motorsport whilst costing them very little by getting sponsorship from all & sundry by pushing it onto a lot of F1 weekends, I can't think of a single thing.

I've attached link to FIA 2024 financial report, N.B. figures are shown in thousands of Euros not millions - the good stuff is pages 6,7 & 8 Jeri.

F1 Academy may be lip service, but I find it fun to watch. I watch it far more often than F2 or F3. Somewhere out there is a woman with the talent and skill to at least be in the F1 mid pack. If they could find her, she could be a big asset getting sponsorship for a Haas or other low budget team.
