Author Topic: Caterham back on 27 F1 grid? Young Kuwaiti upstart's pipe dream or possibility?  (Read 3118 times)

Offline John S

There are many spoken about wannabe F1 entrants but none seem to have the laid out business plan that's talked about here.
Can a nobody, in F1 terms anyway, pull off a seemingly impossible feat of adding a 12th team to the grid?

At least with the Caterham name no one expects great things of front running if they do make the grid.  :D

I'm all for more teams, and if they're a solid foundation, I don't really care if they've got a racing heritage or not.

However, given 'Andretti' was black balled from the sport for 'not bringing anything to grow' F1, I don't know how an obscure brand licence based in a small country is bringing anything to grow F1.  There should be Indian and Chinese teams in F1.  We already have middle east owned teams.  We already have niche sport car brand F1 teams.

Someone at Liberty had a grudge against the Andrettis. Saying they would bring or add nothing to F1 is laughable. Lord Hesketh started a team that had mild success without a deep racing background.

This would be very welcome in the UK. Caterham is a much loved sports car brand that has stuck to its heritage, in a world of full of rules, regs, and modernisation.

Everyone loves an underdog. I hope they can make it happen. It would certainly spark a new interest in F1 for me personally.

Liberty is an big American business. The motto of big American business is "It's all about the Benjamins." (Ben Franklin is on the $100 bill) If this outfit has a few 40' shipping containers of cash Liberty will be more than happy to relieve them of it.

That said, I'd love to see the Caterham name back on the grid.
