Driver Number Changes?
(1/1)
Jericoke:
Since 2014 F1 drivers have had 'permanent' numbers, which are reserved for them until they are out of the sport for 2 year. The only exception being that the WDC is allowed to take #1 (Oddly, in the 11 years of this rule, only one driver has taken the #1!)
The FIA has decided to update the rules to allow drivers to change their 'permanent' number

and Max Verstappen has already stated that he would like to claim 3, Daniel Ricciardo's number, which isn't free until 2027.

Personally, I don't really care about the numbers. I like that the drivers can claim a number as 'theirs', with the marketing and easy identification that entails. I also think they should be able to change them, though it never has happened.
In the National Football League if a player changes their number (or their name, which has happened) they are required to pay the league back for royalties on already manufactured merchandise.
Andy B:
I believe from 2026 there is no requirement to show driver/car numbers on the car which I doubt will make much difference and they cannot be easily seen now.

Which I find wrong. Numbers should be prominently displayed at all times.
PS Suffered a total computer meltdown, then discovered my backup was compressed and missing whatever code was necessary to decompress it. So I've been extracting it one package at a time and finally found which Aunt was my secret question. Wiz, I requested password resets several times, but never got an email, not one.

The concept pictures F1 just released have a very large number on them. (See below)
Side note on driver #s - We have a daily $100 drawing at our AMVETS Post. A keycard number is drawn from a barrel. A couple days ago they pulled 43. The bartender asked "Who's #43?" The almost unanimous answer from those of us there was "Richard Petty!"
