Author Topic: Is 'Laser powered bed fusion' new frontier in F1 engine tech piston stretching?  (Read 1275 times)

'Laser powered bed fusion' - what's that you may be thinking?
Well it's complete control of the varied materials you can include in 3D printed metals/carbon alloy pistons and other parts.  :swoon:

However Laser powered bed fusion is probably not what's behind Merc & Red Bull push to open permitted compression gap from 16:1 to 18:1 at higher temps. It's more likely its the connecting rods that are being targeted to gain on compression.

We all knew F1 was future tech, some of this stuff is verging on Star Trek territory.  :D
