Came across this article about the new F1 'Green' fuel production, by Timothy it's a complicated process and God knows how much it will all cost.  ::)

Do you have any idea how complicated it is to make 'pump petrol'?

Honestly, all of these sustainable methods are much simpler.  The only reason 'pump petrol' is 'cheap' is that massive infrastructure and scale has been designed to make it so.  If we were inventing cars from scratch today, there's no way we'd go with the current fuel systems.

Even the Model T was designed to run off of sustainable fuels, Ford expected farmers would grow and distill their own fuel.  If petroleum wasn't just lying around in pools in Pennsylvania, I doubt it would have caught on as a fuel source in the USA.

Around here, the requirement for renewable electricity would pretty much mean they would have to generate their own. Anything from the grid would be heavily coal & gas fired.

In fact the Ohio state legislature passed massive taxpayer subsidies for coal fired power plants. Bribery was proved, lobbyists & legislators went to prison but we are still paying the  subsidies. (Hey, if they don't get their money's worth they might stop paying bribes.)
