The man is mental, but the GOP knows that without him they are done, for probably quite a while so they prop him up. Now he wants to remove the name of a WW2 Navy Cross hero from the newest supercarrier and rename it for himself. He wants to have the Navy redesign carriers under construction to move the island forward because it looks better to him. And he wants the Navy to strip out the magnetic launch system on the newest ones and replace it with the older steam catapults. who knows why? That's just the Navy.

There is a certain poetry that he wants to downgrade the American Navy for the next three generations, making 'the free world' vulnerable, AND name it for himself.

All of this aircraft carrier stuff started when reports of the terrible conditions aboard the carrier U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln became public. Trump and his lackey Pete Hegseth responded by publicly belittling the crew and their families.

As for the magnetic catapults, I'd be willing to bet it's because they don't put off all of that dramatic looking mist shown in the opening scene of the original Top Gun movie. (Which, if memory serves, was done with DJ fog machines for the movie.)

As much as I hate to give him any credit, he came to the conclusion about EMALS not working by actually speaking with the deck crew of the Ford during his first term.  The system wasn't working at full capacity at the time, and the crew were frustrated with it.  Of all the times to listen to 'the little guy', this one is stuck in his head.

From what I've learned about EMALS, it's still not working at full capacity (aside from the Ford being currently out of service), however it currently runs at 120% capacity of the steam catapults.

Notice that he's a few rows back in a glass fronted VIP box where none of the drivers could possibly see him. At least IndyCar got that much right.
