Reigning world champion Fernando Alonso has rubbished clams he could quit Formula One if he claims a third drivers' title this year.
The 25-year-old Spaniard, who won back-to-back titles with Renault before switching to McLaren this season, is joint leader with team-mate Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen after four races. And, following a hint last year that he would retire when he has bagged three titles to emulate the likes of Ayrton Senna, Nelson Piquet and Niki Lauda, Alonso has now spoken out to rule out the prospect of quitting the sport.
In an new interview with Deutsche Press-Agentur, he said: "Even if I do achieve my ambition (in 2007) it will not mean that I will no longer want to drive. If I should become a three times world champion, I will try to do it four times.
"Each year you need new motivations and new goals. This year the motivation is to win with McLaren-Mercedes and get the title. And next year will not be different."
However Alonso claims a third title would take the heat off him personally for what he wanted to achieve in Formula One.
