Attention, PSP owners

Attention, PSP owners: head on over to www.yourpsp.com and you’ll be able to download an updated version of the console’s firmware.

This makes a number of changes to the PSP, adding support for several new audio formats (including Apple’s AAC, used by your iPod), the ability to view Flash movies on the web browser and, er, Chinese language support.

Perhaps most interesting is the fact that it prepares the PSP for Sony’s forthcoming LocationFree TV service, due for launch in May. This service will allow you to record TV shows at home (you need a special box to do this), then send the video over the internet for download to your PSP. The idea is that you can keep up to date with your favourite programmes, even if you happen to be on the other side of the world.

Like those before it, this update also improves security – so it’ll render all your homebrew software useless.
