Windows Vista
« on: May 26, 2007, 12:35:43 PM »
Well guys, ironically, after saying not to get windows vista for around 12 months, work and microsoft have conspired to foil me.  My new work laptop, unfortunately for me, came with Vista.  After running it for a week now, I have found a couple of small pieces of software for work that are not compatible, but things are not quite as bad as they appear, certain security settings can be changed to avoid certain annoying warnings without losing a secure OS.  You can also change the desktop settings so the interface seems very similar to Windows XP.  The new start menu structure has an interesting feature, you now have the ability to just start typing in the name of the software you wish to start and Vista will search the menu for you and present the closest matches.  Only time will tell how happy I will, or will not be.

If any of you out there have tried Vista, let us know about your experiences.

I've been using Vista for a couple of months now, roughly the same situation as you Rom, new laptop = Vista.

So far it's been quick and reliable but I also have had some compatibility issues with software, nothing major, more annoying than anything.

Rom, any probs with Vista in the work environment? We have had several customers upgrade to Vista only to find if they have an MFD thats more than two years old then the scanning functionality is lost with Ricoh not planning any new drivers!

Mate Welcome to the beauty and strength of the Konica Minolta products.  We have machines 4 years old in our office still scanning perfectly.  The EFI Fiery print controller, while rather expensive, is an amazing piece of kit.  I swear by them.  almost all of my customers scan to e-mail and the rest scan to the built in hard drive and use internet explorer to retrieve their scans.  There are some driver issues but these are scheduled to be resolved completely by late August.  Some of the new layouts for configuration seem a little over-complicated, but hey, you get that.

good luck with it all mate.

I've heard mixed reviews about Vista compatibility issues. Fortunatly, our amjor accounts are NOT early adapters. One still has several hundred units around the country running on a Windows 98 based platform. It actually runs better than its Windows XP counterpart!
