Lewis Hamilton: Creating an eBay bidding war
« on: June 18, 2007, 04:11:11 PM »

Lewis Hamilton has sparked an eBay frenzy by putting his own customised McLaren Mercedes go-kart up for sale.

The British wonderboy says he doesn't have time to use the 75kg Zip kart anymore and wants to auction the item off to raise money for charity.

Bids have already topped £20,000, with the current frontrunner registering an offer of £20,100.

Lewis said: "It's brand new, with only one careful owner.

"It's pretty fast ... just how I like it! For anyone who aspires to be a Formula 1 driver one day this is for you."

"The reasons for selling are my work commitments mean my weekends are taken up for the foreseeable future, plus Vodafone McLaren Mercedes have given me a much faster vehicle now ... maybe you saw it on TV when I won the 2007 Canadian F1 Grand Prix!"

Money from the auction goes to Tommys, the baby charity, and the winner will also get to meet the rising star.

While Lewis isn't my favorite driver,I
have to give him credit for being a

He certainly has got everything going for him. What I wouldn't give to be in his shoes!

The kart went for 42,000 pounds to an annonymous bidder. Then Lewis pranged it. He was driving it at a promotional event in London when he hit the blastic barriers.

"It's a bit bent back here" he said to the delight of the crowd.
