Summer of Love +40 yrs
« on: June 29, 2007, 05:32:41 AM »
Here's a little something for my fellow grey beards out there. Then and now pix of some of the icons of 1967 - the Summer of Love.

Click on the "2007" button to switch the pictures.

You younger folk (Yes, I mean you, Rom) can ask your grandparents about it.

Oh man...

I love the ol' sixties scene. One of my faourite dvd's is the Monterey 3 disc boxset. Otis Redding is totally rockin'.
I love the Ken Kesey story with him zig-zagging across the US on his bus, Neal Cassady at the wheel.
The Beatles going completely pshychedelic.
Pink Floyd's psychedelic "happenings" in the UFO club in london.
Jimi Hendrix blowing Eric Clapton off the stage at a Cream gig.
The Doors and Jefferson Airplane doing their thing on the West Coast... Wow Far out! :)

What about Woodstock then, just got hold of the DVD of it, not impressed, they've cut a lot out, some of the best stuff too.

Oh man, the memories...

Airplane!  Yeah, they would concentrate on Gracie Slick (she's the prettiest by a mile) but Jack Casady is the greatest bass guitarist who ever lived!  Still going too and as good as ever.

Hehehe, actually I disagree with the old saying that, if you can remember the sixties, you weren't there.  Why, only yesterday I was saying to...  ummm...  what's-his-name that I can still remember... errr... you know, that thing in the field with all the... umm...  I'm sorry, what were we talking about?

I was 18 in 1964. You don't get much more 60s than that.

I was in England studying in 67 for 6 months. If I wasn't helping someone out at some circuit on weekends I'd be at a friend's flat in South Kensington. Saturdays would always be spent at the Kings Road, ponsing up and down in my red and white Cooper S. Saturday night at the De Vere club on Glochester road, Sunday morning at the Bunch of Grapes in Knightsbridge for a swift pint, and from there straight to Brands.

Oh happy days.

I don't remember what I had for dinner a couple of hours ago, but I remember all of that, right down to the lovely Shirley Taylor I frequently took to the De Vere club. I wonder where she is now?
