Thank you, johnbull, for providing the correct plural for forum. I honestly had thought it was a matter of sticking "s" on the end - silly me!

Please take no notice of my occasional linguistic outbursts.  English is constantly developing and changing - in fact, that is one of its greatest strengths.  It is only dinosaurs like me who remember strange things like the plural of forum and, if anyone took any notice of me and my ilk, we'd all still be speaking the language of Shakespeare.

Fair enough, Chameleon - but I'm a sometime proofreader, among other things. It's supposed to be people like me who maintain the quality of English! If I don't use English correctly (even relatively obscure bits of the language), how am I supposed to expect anyone else to do so?

Perhaps it is the proofreaders who are all that stand between us and final degeneration of English into a chorus of grunts and textspeak.  Although I appreciate that English must always change and adapt itself to the tide of time, it is hard not to think that this current age is doing little but dumbing down (a very expressive phrase contributed by the Americans) the language to the point of incomprehensibility.  To spend any time at all in internet chat is to realise the extent of the problem, especially when one considers the fact that these are that small percentage of the population who retain enough literacy to actually attempt communication through the written word.

Is that what they call Ronspeak?

Would the plural of Lotus be Loti?  ::)

I was browsing through the "More Stats" when I noticed something strange:

Top 10 Posters     Top 10 Boards

GPWizard       2711
dare       2052
cosworth151       1640
ian       1556
romephius       1065
Steven Roy       750
johnbull       734
Neil.P       626
Chameleon       520
Alianora La Canta       377

GPWizard has taken the lead in the poster race. Most other people are keeping their relative position, but Steven's just come out of nowhere to leapfrog loads of people. Neil. P and I have joined in the table as well.

In the immortal words of Sir Winston Churchill, this is something up with which I will not put!

Amazing forum.  I was on one in Canada a few years ago that although poorly managed was amazing in that you could reply to a person anywhere along the thread, so if you were off for a while, or missed something, it didn't seem out of place suddenly.  Unfortunately a small war began on that one, and eventually the powers that be shut it down due to too many complaints (ironically from the very ones who were involved in the little war).

Keep it up Wiz, and hopefully I'll become friends with a few of you (boy, it sure is lonely being in Switzerland)...maybe even sneak over to the British GP this year or next.

Now that sounds like an unusual setup, ScottyD. That sort of forum structure really confuses me, but if it worked for you, that's great.

Glad you like it here, and hopefully I'll become friends with you. Though I don't think I'll be able to make it to Silverstone 2008 (I've got my eye on Spa...)

No, it was great, you could minimize or maximize threads, or add new tangents in the threads, sort of the way you can in Windows explorer (or in that case add a new folder).
