Campos not ruling out F1 in 2008
« on: August 16, 2007, 05:34:40 PM »

GP2 team owner Adrian Campos has confirmed that his outfit are looking at opportunities to move up to Formula One, as talks continue with Super Aguri about investment opportunities.

Autosport reported earlier this week that Aguri Suzuki had opened talks with Spanish businessman Alejandro Agag, a major shareholder in Campos Grand Prix, about a team buy-in.

Those talks are ongoing as Super Aguri seek investors that they need to move them forwards. The Leafield-based team's budget has been hit by major sponsor SS United defaulting on payments.

Campos has long been linked with a move up to F1, but has not openly talked about the possibility before.

However, Campos has said that his team were looking at making the step up to F1 - and interestingly did not rule out developments happening that saw him make the jump in 2008.

"We are looking and our project is in that direction," he said, referring to Agag's talks with Super Aguri. "I don't know how and I don't know when.

"Now we are focused on GP2, but there are other possibilities. Next year in my opinion would be too soon. But you never know."

Super Aguri have made it clear that only a minority shareholding of their team is up for sale.

"No Matter how little money and how few possessions, you own, having a dog makes you rich."

I hope Suzuki-san can find some kind of financing for the rest of the season. He's done so well with so little. Matbe Honda could help steer a sponsor or two toward him.

It's a sad statement on the state of the sport that both the small independents are having trouble keeping afloat.
