Alonso - 'if he is free, we are happy to have him back'
« on: October 15, 2007, 10:42:29 PM »

Flavio Briatore, on the eve of the GP of Brazil, the last of the 2007 season, keeps denying that he is in contact with Fernando Alonso to get him back in the team.

"People are talking about it a lot, but Fernando has a contract with another team for 2008" the manager said on the Renault website. "At this moment his is focused on winning the championship, to win his third consecutive world title" added Briatore. "I have already said that if he is free, we are happy to have him back in Renault" he said, adding about the next season that "there is no reason to hurry these announcements.

When we are ready, we will let you know". Then on the present drivers: "Giancarlo Fisichella has done a great job, very important this year. His experience is very important for us, especially when the car wasn't performing well. The race at Monaco for instance, he has changed the whole setup. He knows how to drive and has helped us developing a winning car. A am very pleased with his work" said Briatore.

About Heikki Kovolainen: "He had a difficult start, but from the middle of the season he started showing his talent. It is difficult to make your debut in a car that isn't performing well, but for me he is still this season's revelation. He is improving rapidly".

Briatore thinks supplying engines to RedBull is a good thing. "We have a reliable and competitive engine and our approach has been the right one. We have given to RedBull the same equipment, support and work our team had, a unique situation in the paddock".

Then talking about Prodrive in 2008, Briatore said: "We have not been in contact with Prodrive and are not in a position to supply material to another team at this moment".

"No Matter how little money and how few possessions, you own, having a dog makes you rich."

I know Flav is a salesman who doesn't really know a lot about racing but presumably he has noticed Lewis Hamilton this season.

I think he's built Heikki up the 2nd half so he'll
have more bargaining power in a Alonso/Heikki swap
Mark Twain once opined, "it's easier to con someone than to convince them they've been conned."
